El Dorado

Cole Thornton (John Wayne) är på väg till El Dorado för att bistå sin vän och vapenbroder J.P. Harrah (Robert Mitchum) som är sheriff därstädes. På vägen dit får han en ung spoling kallad Mississippi (James Caan) på halsen. Problemet med Mississippi är att han är synnerligen skicklig med kniv - men han är en urusel skytt. Så Thornton anser att något måste göras åt saken.

Cole: "Well, we'll be passing through Cuervo. I'll have a talk with the Swede."
Mississippi: "Who's the Swede?"
Cole: "An old friend of mine. A gunsmith."

Och en stund senare rider de in i Cuervo där Cole mycket riktigt hittar den han söker:

Swede: "Why, Cole Thornton."
Cole: "Swede, good to see you."
Swede: "What brings you around here?"
Cole: "Well. I'm looking for a gun for a fella that can't shoot. Mississippi. Swede Larson."
Mississippi: "Oh yeah..."
Cole: "Can you help us out?"
Swede: "Jaha, I think I got just the gun you're looking for."
Cole: "Good."
Cole: "Wow! How wide will that shot spread? I mean how big a pattern?"
Swede: "I don't know. The fellow who used it before, he couldn't see too good. He just shoot where he hear somebody talk."
Mississippi: "What happened to him?"
Swede: "He had a fight in a saloon. The piano player he make so much noice, he couldn't hear the other man, so he just shoot the piano player and they hung him."
Cole: "It looks pretty good to me."
Swede: "Shoots good to."
Cole: "How about ammunition?"
Swede: "Four or five boxes ought to be enough."
Cole: "Good. Mississippi, looks like what you need."
Mississippi: "Yeah, sure is."
Cole: "Pay the man....Swede..."
Swede: "Cole, you come back soon."
